Connecting an Exam Tool to Moodle: What LTI 1.3 Actually Covers

LTI 1.3 Advantage standardises the secure launch of a tool from an LMS (OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, signed tokens) and, through optional services, the exchange of roles and grade lines. Each service is enabled and tested separately: a launch that works does not mean grades flow back. Educati offers no LTI connector and holds no 1EdTech certification; exchange with third-party systems runs today through AREF/MASSAR and CSV exports and a v1 API whose domain data is read-only — authentication there mints tokens, and the only write it exposes is marking a notification as read.

What the standard actually covers

LTI 1.3 separates the platform, which launches the experience, from the external tool. The launch relies on OpenID Connect; LTI Advantage services use OAuth 2.0 and signed tokens. Before configuring anything, write down the scenario: an instructor adds a resource, a learner launches it, and information may then flow back to the gradebook.

Three services, three separate verifications

Deep Linking lets an instructor select and embed content. Assignment and Grade Services handles grade lines and results. Names and Role Provisioning Services exposes members and roles within granted permissions. Each is enabled, authorised and tested separately. Ask any vendor which ones they actually implement, on which LMS versions they were tested, and what happens when a grade is edited after the fact.

Certification is a regulated claim

Only products registered under 1EdTech's rules may claim LTI certification. An internal interoperability test does not grant it. Educati is not among those products: no LTI support and no certification is claimed here, and this article is not a connector announcement.

What Educati exchanges today

Academic records stay in the platform: assessments, a gradebook on the Moroccan /20 scale, report cards and transcripts. For academic obligations Educati produces AREF and MASSAR exports; beyond that, CSV exports (students, payments, audit logs) and a v1 API whose domain data is read-only, authenticated with scoped keys or a user token; the only write it exposes is marking a notification as read. Families are informed through the portal and WhatsApp fan-out, not through a third-party gradebook.

If you must keep your LMS as the master gradebook

Decide explicitly which system owns the grade, and plan a documented periodic export rather than a real-time sync that neither side has committed to maintaining.

Frequently asked questions

Does Educati provide an LTI 1.3 connector for Moodle?
No. No LTI connector is available and Educati holds no 1EdTech certification. Exchange with an existing LMS runs through AREF/MASSAR and CSV exports and the v1 API, whose domain data is read-only.
Does a working LTI launch mean grades are synced?
No. Grade write-back depends on Assignment and Grade Services, which is enabled, authorised and tested separately from the launch.
